Blog: Back to School
It is a very bizarre experience getting up, having a coffee, getting my kids ready for school then putting on a school uniform. Sarah C from RadioWorks (my new Mum) dropped me to school with a packed lunch and a smile and then left me to the teenagers. My Chemical Romance have a song that goes "teenagers scared the living 'bleep' out of me", these teenagers however where quite the opposite. Garin College should be very proud of it's students, they were a collection of very mature and thoughtful young men and women.
The day started with a small telling off from the principal for wearing the wrong shoes, I managed to talk my way out of a detention, then it was off to music class. One girl in the class said about me being there, "oh my god this is so wrong", ha water off a ducks back. Religious education was interesting, we discussed Michael Jones' decision to not play rugby on Sunday. Then it was off to PE which was great apart form getting picked last for the volleyball team! I think they were trying to make me feel uncomfortable. I quickly grabbed some lunch from the tuck shop, home made pasta and they had eftpos, before giving a concert with the school band. The singer looked a bit embarrassed, might have had something to do with my school of rock impersonation.
I got sent out of the maths test because my cell phone rang then off to art. Seeing as I'm not the best photographer I spent the art class interviewing the students as to what life is like as a teenager. I found out that life isn't that different to when I was one, same pressures, same unsureness about their place in the world. When asked what advice they would give to adults regarding teenage life they replied, "to understand something you have to experience it".
Well I've experienced it, I survived it and I learnt from it. I never thought I would learn something going to school lol.
6 to go, yes that's right 6!
