Blog: Rap Battle at the Shark Club

I really am becoming more comfortable being uncomfortable! I can feel the change in me as I have been approaching the last few challenges. Seeing as I'm a Rock man, tonight was about stepping way outside my comfort zone and performing a style of music I really have no idea about, rap. The Kurnel MC was my rap opponent for the evening and he is good. We had a few topics which got chosen at random then we each had 30 seconds to rap about them. The key technique I used to get myself through this challenge was acting as if (fake it until you make it). I just had to change my state from feeling nervous and act as if I could rap and just believe people were going to enjoy it. End result it wasn't anywhere near as scary as I though it was going to be! In fact I had a great time. It reminded me of a school camp when you had to give some kind of silly performance and you just had lots of fun. The top 10 start tomorrow which is quite a scary feeling, the day in a wheel chair is going to be really challenging but will hopefully give me a greater appreciation for things I take for granted.

The whole journey of 30 Fears in 30 Days is starting to take it's toll on me physically, emotionally and mentally. I don't get anytime to process what I have done and in between working, kids, life and planning the next challenge I hardly get time to breathe! It is an amazing journey on this emotional rollercoaster and I am learning some fantastic things about motivation and goal setting. Grant's advice for achieving goals: Get really good support from friends, have down time to process your achievements, give yourself pats on the back every now and again, get lots of sleep, surround yourself with things that inspire you, write down why the goal is important to you, because at some stage on the journey you're going to feel lost. Reminding yourself of why you're on the journey in the first place will keep you motivated.

Ad break: I want to stop and say a big thank you to Janie and the team at Capitall Promotions for the clothing and screen printing and Hothouse for the awesome 30 Fears logo design, you guys rock!

Also while I'm here, the music that is in the background of all the videos is my band SURGE and we're looking for a singer, so drop me a line at grant@30fearsin30days.co.nz if you're keen.

Join me for the countdown...
