Blog: Public speaking to over 200 teenagers
Today was my public speaking to 200 teenagers challenge. As always happens on a journey things change, in this case I've changed. I'm feeling super confident at the moment like I could take on the world. The Duo Media guys being the great friends that they are said, "if you're feeling comfortable talking to these teenagers then we need to up the anti". So one hour before the girls from Nelson College for Girls piled into the hall I learnt how to dance like dancing with the stars and then put on a performance half-way through my talk with a Year 12 student.
I have never had any dance lessons and this was really outside my comfort zone. So I just used all the techniques I've been using all month. I modeled what Darney the dance teacher was doing. I broke the whole dance down into bite sized chunks then learned a little at a time. I focused on the, I can dance and not on the I can't, and I approached it with a fun lite hearted attitude!
End result I had a blast! I really enjoyed dancing and am thinking of now going to salsa lessons! I think that is always the way, we think something is going to be horrible then it turns out to be fantastic. As the month unfolds and I become more comfortable being uncomfortable my list of things I want to achieve form the 1st September is becoming quite exciting.
Now your turn.
What have you always wanted to learn to do by keep putting off? My challenge to you is go make some progress towards that goal by Friday and we wanna hear about it on the message board!
