Blog: Half Marathon

I woke up this morning and felt totally exhausted, the last thing I wanted to do was get out of bed let alone go for a 21km run before work. However we have a saying in the 30 Fears camp now, "is that the Discovery attitude?" The answer to that question was 'NO!'. So out of bed I hopped. A quick coffee as there was no time for breakfast and I headed into Fitlife.

Today was the longest I have ever run in my life. It came about from a colleague saying they wanted to do a 1/2 marathon but had to wait until February. I joking said, "why not just do it before work on a treadmill at the gym?" Their reply was "Why don't you?".

It took me 2 hours and 22 minutes to complete the 21km and I can tell you now I am in pain! Intense pain! I've now got blisters on my feet. At one stage, near the end, it was just me on my own in the gym and I really had to dig deep for the motivation. One interesting thing I found was how much easier it was to run while I was listening to my motivation playlist on my MP3 player. These are songs I normally run to so I have anchored motivational feelings to those songs. As soon as I heard them I felt like running. I guess it's a great idea to anchor positive, happy songs with successes your have in your life so that if you ever feel down or need motivation you just throw on that CD and the motivated feelings will come back.

For all you Hampden Street kids I'm gonna come visit you guys on Wednesday at lunch time and we may just have a little surprise from Radio Works for you!

Feeling tired and motivated and extremely nervous about this blind date tomorrow... Grant
